With Water Tower in Mason, OH swiftly approaching we are getting major updates and clarifications to the MetaZoo Rulebook and Rules Index. The latest updates as of 03/01/23 update can be found highlighted throughout these documents. While we do not have an update on the Official 4th Wall List and Official 4th Wall Clamable Items we should be getting them soon.
The most up-to-date public documents can always be found on and downloaded from the MetaZoo Gameplay page of the MetaZoo Games website!
Every player knows how important of a utility the MetaZoo Rulebook is. For many of the other documents that are vital to balancing gameplay and laying out rules of competitive play, it can seem a little overwhelming.
Our advice is to:
Take it slow and regularly look for the info you need.
Download a PDF and find keywords for cards and effects you have questions on.
Look up definitions of traits/effects, rulings for interactions, and errats (changes to card text) that your cards may have gone through since they were printed.
You will not know it all but knowing where and when to look it up is what matters!
In future articles, we’ll look at important rules, rulings, and erratas that are relevant to the upcoming Water Tower. For now to give a glimpse of some of the recent changes we’ll simply show the changelogs.

Since the announcement of the Towers MetaZoologists (MZO, Judges) have been debating every interaction and definition they could think of to help polish the rules from the upcoming competition. The MetaZoo R&D team has finally compiled a major update base on these efforts. Work is never complete on these living documents but clarification for players and judges will go a long way!
