Back for the last time before the 2023 Water Tower Event in Mason, Ohio. We continue this time reviewing some of the card Erratas that will be important to this special Water Tower Format. Erratas are text corrections to printed cards. The Errata List can be found in the MetaZoo Rules Index, and contains revisions that impact a Page’s functionality. Erratas for a Page in one edition may not be present in a future edition once they have been corrected.

Official MetaZoo Rules Index 2/3/23
Many cards in the Cryptid Nation Base Set did not have a keyword like Arena or Contract on them to state the game mechanic that their effect should be applied to. A new section to help with this is the Official MetaZoo Cryptid Nation Clarification Sheet. It is a culmination of clarifications for the functionality of all Cryptid Nation Base Set Pages. These clarifications will not be considered Errata to any Page and will primarily focus on Beasties and Artifacts intended functionality.
We’ll mention some Water Tower-relevant cards here!
Chessie (CN 10/159)
○ Effect: “When Chessie enters the Arena, Bookmark a Page from the top of your
Spellbook.”
■ Clarification Effect: ENTER
(Enter: Effects that resolve when a Page enters the Arena. (A Page being Contracted into the Arena is still considered to have entered the Arena unless the Page is a Spell or Potion).
Loveland Frogman (CN 11/159)
○ Effect: “Any spell you Contract may be Contracted by Loveland Frogman instead if you
blow Loveland Frogman a kiss. Any effect of a spell Contracted by Loveland Frogman that
would affect you, affects Loveland Frogman instead. While Loveland Frogman is in the
Arena under your control, you may Bookmark an extra Page from the top of your
Spellbook at the start of each of your turns.”

(Arena: Persistent Effects that apply only while this Page is face-up in the Arena.)
Beast of Busco (CN 12/159)
○ Effect: “Beast of Busco cannot declare an Attack and any Combat Damage that would be
dealt by Beast of Busco is reduced to 0 (after applying all other modifiers).”

Sewer Alligator (CN 126/159)
○ Effect: “This Beastie can only be Contracted in a City”
■ Clarification Effect: Static Effect
(Static Effect: Page Effects that are considered “rules” of the Page and are constantly applied/checking once a game has begun. They only become active while the Page is known information)
From here we have more classic Errats that change the wording on the cards in function and for all future printings of the card.

Are Terras that are “active” in a pseudo environment physically present within the Arena?
○ No. This means Pages like USO cannot hide under them as they are not present.

You may is an impotant phrase to look for in any effect. This gives the caster a choise to take that action or not. Without this an effect statment is a requirment that must be fufilled. Some cards can not be legaly played in some cases if there effect requirments like bookmarking X cards can not be done.
